Author David Gunkel will give the talk “The Right(s) Question: Can and Should Robots Have Rights” at a Department of Philosophy colloquium at 5 p.m. Thursday, February 28, in Stevenson Hall, room 401A. The talk is free and open to the public.
Gunkel, the author of the books The Machine Question and Robot Rights, teaches in the Department of Communication at Northern Illinois University.
In his talk, he will offer a provocative argument for giving serious consideration to what has been previously regarded as unthinkable: whether robots and other technological artifacts of our own making can and should have a claim to moral and legal standing.
