Michelle Segar, director of the Sport, Health, and Activity Research and Policy Center at the University of Michigan, will present “Reframing Exercise: Messages and Methods to Achieve Lasting Exercise Motivation within Health Care” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, in the Brown Ballroom III of the Bone Student Center. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

Segar’s presentation is the 2019 Esther Larson McGinnis Scholar Lecture presented by Illinois State’s School of Kinesiology and Recreation.

Segar, the bestselling author of No Sweat and a sustainable behavior change scientist, is a translational researcher who has been integrating diverse areas of science into consumer-friendly messages and programming for almost three decades. Her comprehensive, science-based approach creating sustainable behavior change related to healthy lifestyles and well-being has made her a sought-after speaker, consultant to global organizations, and media expert.

Segar holds a Ph.D. in psychology focused on exercise motivation and sustainable behavior change and a master’s degree in health behavior and health education, and a master’s degree in kinesiology. Segar ran with the Olympic Torch at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
