The Department of Special Education at Illinois State is excited to offer a master of science in education in low vision and blindness. This fully online, five-semester program will provide current teachers an opportunity to add a state of Illinois endorsement in low vision and blindness while obtaining a master’s degree.
Illinois is experiencing severe shortages in teachers licensed to teach visually impaired students, making this the perfect time to obtain this endorsement. Training includes study of specialized content such as:
- Braille reading and writing
- Assistive technology for individuals with visual impairments
- Functional vision assessments
- Learning media assessments
- Expanded core curriculum
Licensed teachers for the visually impaired are prepared to teach students from preschool through high school in a variety of classroom settings, resource rooms, or residential settings.
