The Department of Special Education is beginning an online certificate program for practicing general education teachers to complete learning behavior specialist (LBS) 1 endorsement requirements. The first cohort will begin classes in fall 2023.

This program is designed for current teachers seeking an LBS 1 special education endorsement or who want to expand their ability to teach students with disabilities in their general education classrooms. It provides educators with induction and mentoring support, a strong foundation of initial competencies in special education, and an introduction to advanced competencies in special education.

Program highlights include:

  • 100% online format
  • Only 15 credit hours
  • Courses can be applied toward a master’s degree in special education
  • Learn from graduate faculty with K-12 classroom experience and expertise in special education
  • Preparation to better serve students with disabilities

Applications for the LBS 1 certificate program are open now. Review of applications will begin in March and candidates will be accepted on a rolling basis until the program is full. Those interested are invited to attend an online information session or email academic advisor Megan Baxter or Jane Koscielak.
