On March 8, Dr. L.J. Zigerell held a “Data Visualizations in R” workshop to train students on how to use the statistical software R to create high-quality data visualizations.
The workshop covered the use of the tidyverse package and other packages to enter data into R, to set up a plot area, to plot data, to save plots, and to adjust default theme elements of the plot such as color, line width, and font size. The workshop also introduced dynamic visualizations using the shiny package.
The workshop discussed advice about data visualizations, such as emphasizing the key point of a pattern that researchers want viewers to take away from the visualization. The workshop provided students an opportunity to code a data visualization on their own.
Contact Zigerell for directions about accessing the tutorial for the data visualization workshop, which students and others can work through at their own pace.
