Legal Studies Instructional Assistant Professor Amelia Buragas has published a book titled, Open Meetings Act and Freedom of Information Act for the Illinois Municipal League (IML). The IML is a statewide, community-focused lobbying and educational organization giving municipalities a powerful presence and voice at the state and federal levels. The book is a practical guide for local officials in complying with the Illinois Open Meetings Act and the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
Buragas currently works as a lawyer and legal writer. She received her Master of Arts from University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as her Juris Doctor from University of Wisconsin Law School. She has been teaching advanced legal research and writing in the Illinois State legal studies program since August 2021. She is also director of the Appellate Lawyers Association representing the Fourth District Appellate Court.
She will become a tenure-track faculty member of the Department of Politics and Government this August. She also will become the pre-law advisor for Illinois State at that time.
