The ISU Pre-Law Club hosted a presentation given by Professors Amelia Buragas and Tom McClure on the Supreme Court and affirmative action at its meeting on April 5. Over 50 students attended the event.

The two professors first presented the history of the United States Supreme Court’s treatment of affirmative action over the past 50 years. Professor McClure then presented the arguments raised by the Students for Fair Admissions to challenge Harvard University’s admissions program.  Professor Buragas gave Harvard’s defense of its admissions practice. This was followed by a question-and-answer session.

Professor Buragas is currently teaching part-time in the legal studies program. She will become a member of the full-time faculty in August. Professor McClure is the acting Chair of the Department of Politics and Government. He returns to his position as Director of Legal Studies in the fall.
