Publications

Ali Riaz, POL, has co-published a book titled, How Autocrats Rise: Sequences of Democratic Backsliding. The book examines the processes of democratic backsliding in four countries—Bangladesh, Bolivia, Hungary, and Turkey, and demonstrates that political developments in these countries have followed a similar, specific pattern resulting in various shades of autocracy. He also published a commentary in the Daily Star of Bangladesh about the democracy indices and the state of global democracy.

Rajeev Goel, ECO, published an article on AI and college plagiarism titled, Do college and anti-plagiarism/cheating policies have teeth in the age of AI? Exploratory evidence from the Internet.

Marcel Lopes dos Santos, KNR, coauthored “Correlation between Lower-body Strength and Performance Tests among Female NCAA Division II Softball Players” in the International Journal of Exercise Science.

Celeste Calkins, TEC, coauthored “Academic Graphic Communications: Revising the Taxonomy” in the Visual Communication Journal.

Haiyan Xie and Sundeep Inti, TEC, coauthored “Data-Driven Decision Support for Equipment Selection and Maintenance Issues for Buildings” in the Journal of Buildings.

Reem Hassan Bagais, FCS, coauthored “Associations between the home physical environment and child self-regulation: A conceptual exploration” in the Journal of Environmental Psychology.

Micheal Rowley, FCS, coauthored “The role of high school family and consumer sciences courses in cultivating a teacher pipeline across the Midwest” in the Journal of Education and Training Studies.

Janice Jayes, HIS, published an article titled, The Age of Disconnect: U.S. Policy and the War Beyond Gaza in the Public, Independent Media Center.

Presentations

Ali Riaz, POL, delivered a lecture at the University of Toronto Mississauga on the democratic backsliding in Bangladesh. Riaz’s talk titled, “Crossing the Rubicon: How Bangladesh is Becoming a One-party State” was organized by the Centre for South Asian Critical Humanities.

Eric Kramer, KNR, presented “The NCAA Transfer Portal – Five Years Later: How a Compliance Tool Became a Symbol of Change for Transfer Athletes” at the Sport, Recreation, and Law Association Conference in Baltimore.

Bin Lizzo, KNR, presented “A Critical Examination of Leisure Representations in Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse” at the Academy of Leisure Sciences 2024 Teaching and Research Conference, in New Orleans.

Justin Stanek, KNR, presented “Comparison of the immediate effects of Graston Technique® on Subcutaneous Hemodynamics within the Triceps Surae” at the Big Sky Athletic Training and Sports Medicine Conference in Big Sky, Mont.

Deborah Johnson and Beverly Barham, HSC, presented “Time for a Tune Up?” at the Clinical Laboratory Educators Conference, Las Vegas.
