In honor of Women’s History Month this March, WGLT is spotlighting 21 remarkable women who have left an indelible impact on Bloomington-Normal. Among these trailblazers is Myra Gordon, whose unwavering dedication has been instrumental in raising environmental awareness in the Twin Cities.
Gordon’s journey began with her volunteer efforts at Operation Recycle, a precursor to the Ecology Action Center. Through her steadfast commitment, she played a pivotal role in the center’s evolution and growth. Moreover, her leadership as director of the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation for six years further solidified her legacy of service.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Gordon shares a profound connection to academia. Her husband, George, is a professor emeritus in the Department of Politics and Government at Illinois State University. Together, they have been honored as inductees into the CAS Hall of Fame.
Myra Gordon’s tireless advocacy and dedication serve as an inspiration to us all, leaving an enduring mark on Bloomington-Normal.
