Dr. T.Y. Wang, University Professor and chair of Politics and Government, offered a workshop at the Taiwan Research Academy (TRA), held from June 3-9, 2024, at the University of Texas at Dallas. Wang is a member of the TRA Board of Directors who planned and organized the workshop.

The TRA is a forward-focused initiative aiming to cultivate the next generation of Taiwan experts. This year’s program brought together 11 outstanding young scholars and 10 faculty members for an intensive and enriching experience in Taiwan studies. Over the course of seven days, the TRA scholars with various backgrounds examined Taiwan’s history, its political and economic accomplishments, and the island country’s strategic value in the international community. The program also provided a simulation exercise allowing TRA scholars to play roles as different countries when Taiwan was in a hypothetical crisis situation.

Wang also offered a session on the formation and development of Taiwanese citizens’ identities, examining the interactive effects of identity on Taiwan’s democratization and cross-Strait relationship.
