Honors

Anna Smith, TCH, co-authored the article titled, “Tinkering toward teacher learning: A case for critical playful literacies in teacher education,” which was selected as the Emerald Literati Awards 2024 Outstanding Article for the journal, English Teaching: Practice & Critique. The article has now been made freely available for 12 months.

Presentations

Camille Cole and Nathan Kapoor, HIS, presented at the Midwest World History Association Conference on “Narrative Needed: Teaching Content and Skill in World History.”

Christine Varga-Harris, HIS, presented the paper titled, “Cultural Outreach and Soviet Representations of Decolonizing Africa through the Lens of Gender, 1956-1964,” at the Iron Curtains or Artistic Gates? Communism and Cultural Diplomacy in the Global South (1945–1991 and Beyond) Conference, hosted by the University of Vienna in September.

Timothy D. Lash, CHE, presented “Thirty Years of Carbaporphyrin Chemistry: Recent Advances” invited lecture for the symposium on N-Fused and N-Confused Porphyrinoids, organized by Muniappan Sankar and Hiroyuki Furuta, for 13th International Conference on Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines (ICPP-13), Niagara Falls and Buffalo, New York, in June.

Stewart Winger, HIS, delivered a paper titled, “‘Stopping a Skift in the Middle of a River’: Abraham Lincoln, I&M Canal Scrip, and Monetary Policy in a Nineteenth-Century Economic Crisis,” at the Conference on Illinois History in Springfield.

Publications

Catherine O’Reilly, GEO, co-authored the article titled, “Environmental and societal consequences of winter ice loss from lakes,” in the Journal: Science.

Fred H. Smith, SOA, co-authored the book titled, Vindija Cave: A Late Neandertal Site in Northern Croatia. FF Press: Zagreb.

John R. Blakeman and MyoungJin Kim, MCN, co-authored “Further Psychometric Testing of the Chest Pain Conception Questionnaire in a Racially and Ethnically Diverse Sample,” in the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing.

Lydia Kyei-Blankson, EAF, completed APPA’s Center for Facilities Research (CFaR) project titled, “Performance Management through a Service Quality Perspective.” The report has been peer-reviewed, posted to the APPA newsfeed and the CFaR webpages, and will appear in a future issue of Inside APPA.
