College of Applied Science and Technology Dean Chad McEvoy has named Dr. Kelly L. Reddy-Best chair of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, effective July 1, 2025.
Reddy-Best is a Morrill Professor in the Fashion Design and Merchandising program at Iowa State University, where she also serves as co-program director. In addition, she is the chief curator and director of Iowa State’s Textiles and Clothing Museum.
Before Iowa State, she worked as an assistant professor at San Francisco State University in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department. A versatile educator, Reddy-Best has taught courses across the fashion curriculum, including design, product development, merchandising, culture, and history. Her research critically examines the intersections of dress, identity, consumption, regulation, and the broader fashion system, with a particular focus on social justice. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and two books.
“Dr. Reddy-Best brings considerable experience to the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, having successfully served as a scholar, teacher, and program director,” said Dr. McEvoy. “She is an engaging leader and a strong advocate for our diversity values as a college and institution. I am thrilled to welcome Kelly to ISU and CAST!”
