Illinois State University students and alumni are invited to the Career Center’s Fall Career Fair Thursday, October 16, from 2–6 p.m. in the Brown Ballroom at the Bone Student Center.
Students and alumni seeking full-time job opportunities in a variety of industries and majors are encouraged to attend. Recruiters will come from a number of entities, including Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, local businesses, hospitals, and government agencies.
“These companies not only represent a wide variety of industries, but they are also looking for a variety of majors as well,” Career Center Associate Director Pamela Cooper said. “The Fall Career Fair gives students of all majors an opportunity to talk to employers from all industries, not just those directly in their major; many companies are seeking candidates for numerous positions and want to meet candidates from a variety of fields.”
Fair preparation
The Career Center is hosting resume critiques and mock interviews this semester to provide students with the opportunity to prepare for the Fall Career Fair. Resume critiques will be held October 14 and October 15. Resume critiques and mock interviews will be held October 10. All sessions will be held in the Career Center, 185 Student Services Building. Some employers will also be holding “late-night interviews” with potential candidates after the fair or the next day in the Career Center.
Students can also order free business cards to distribute to employers, and print their resume on free resume paper. Both services are available in the Career Center. Students should do so at least one week prior to the fair.
Students who have never attended the fair before or those attending as part of a class requirement should attend the Behind the Scenes Tour at the beginning of the fair starting at 2:15 p.m. Participants will view the fair layout and will learn how to strategically select employers to visit, how to speak with employers, and how to ask them appropriate questions during the fair.
Students attending the fairs need to bring their Redbird ID card and plenty of copies of their resume, and are encouraged to dress for an interview. For more information, visit the Career Center.
