Are you tired of planet Earth? Want to go somewhere far far away? At the Illinois State University Planetarium, you can get an up-close look at the cosmos without leaving the campus!
There are as many reasons to visit the Planetarium as there are stars in the sky. Well, maybe not that many, but let’s look at a few:
It’s calming
The Planetarium gives you the chance to take a break from the stressors of school and literally space out. Sometimes you just want to sit on a nice cushy couch in a dark room while a voice talks to you about space. The problems of college life slip away as you stare at the beauty of the cosmos. By the time the show is over, you feel refreshed and ready to take on anything school throws at you.
It’s educational
As you are sitting in the Planetarium listening to the soothing voice of the narrator, you just might actually learn something. The Planetarium offers presentations about our galaxy as well as more topical areas such as the history of the big dipper as well as the religious significance of stars during the winter solstice. There’s even a show about a cat in space! Get ready to impress your peers with all your new space-related knowledge!

It’s different
The Planetarium is not always the first thing that students think when they want to have a good time on campus, and that’s exactly why you should go. Our Planetarium is one of our hidden gems that is just waiting to surprise you. There’s also a gift shop that is full of space related merchandise, including glow in the dark stars for your new residence hall room. Going to a Planetarium might sound a little strange, but if you embrace the novelty of it, you will have a great time.
It’s affordable
If you’re looking to impress your family, friends, or significant other without breaking the bank, the Planetarium is an excellent place to start. Shows are put on most weekends and it’s only $4 for adults, $3 for students with student IDs, and $2 for children under 4. It’s hard to find a better deal than that!
