Illinois State’s Mock Trial Team dominated at the Lewis University Fantastic Flyer Invitational held in Romeoville November 22-23.
The Redbirds took home 40 percent of the team trophies and 20 percent of the individual awards. Illinois State’s squad 1081 captured second place with a 6-2 record. Squad 1082 was the fourth place team, garnering a 5-2-1 record.
Four Illinois State competitors won individual awards. Freshman Myles McLean was awarded “Outstanding Witness” for his portrayal of an expert witness. Veterans Madeline Herrman, Khandi Wright, and Kelly Franklin were named outstanding attorneys. Franklin earned a perfect score of 20. This was the second time McLean, Herrman, and Wright received awards this season. This was third time this fall Franklin was recognized for her outstanding performance.
Seventeen teams participated in this annual competition. The tournament was won by Loyola University. Northwestern University took third place, and North Central College finished fifth. The only ballot lost by the first place team was to Illinois State.
ISU’s Mock Trial Team accepted an invitation to compete at Indiana University’s tournament early next year and expects to participate at a regional tournament in February in St. Louis.
