A new Teaching-Learning Community (TLC) is forming this semester. Using Improvisation in the Classroom will have its first meeting from 2-3 p.m. Monday, January 25, in the Resource Commons at the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology. This meeting will discuss future meeting times, a structure for the meetings, and what the members hope to get out of this TLC.
This TLC focuses on using an approach to education that engages students using open-ended activities. These types of activities allow students and instructors to express transformation and develop ideas. The group brings together instructors who have used improvisation in the classroom before and those who may be interested in using it. The conversation will focus on learning about the process and the impact that it has on teaching and learning.
Teaching Learning Communities, also known as TLCs, are small groups of five to 12 faculty and staff members, which meet on a regular basis throughout the semester. These groups discuss specific topics of a shared interest or specific needs. Group members decide when they will meet. The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology provides the space and limited funding for books and/or relevant materials.
If you would like to attend, RSVP to Dana Karraker at dmkarra@ilstu.edu. If you are unable to attend this meeting but would like to be a part of the group, please let Dana know what days and times might work for you.
