The Town of Normal’s Theater and Civic Arts Manager Adam Fox will be the next speaker for the University Club (U-Club) discussion Friday, February 12, in the Faculty/Staff Commons of the Bone Student Center.
Fox will present “The Arthouse Cinema and Its Role in the Video-On-Demand World.” The event will begin at 3:30 p.m., with the talk starting at 4:30 p.m.
One of the key components of Fox’s position is the programming of the Normal Theater, the art deco movie house in Uptown Normal, which is operated by the town. The mission of the Normal Theater is to provide audiences with the classic cinema-going experience, an activity that fosters a sense of community while offering added context to a film.
In an age where content is available at all times across a host of different devices, Fox says the bringing-together of an audience for a shared narrative is perhaps more important than it has ever been. He adds that along with those devices have come unique opportunities to make film more of a participatory art form, and those opportunities will help define what is next for the Normal Theater.
All faculty, staff, annuitants, and guests are welcome to attend. Additional information about U-Club events and activities can be found on the University Club website. Continued program support is provided by the Office of the Provost and the Office of the President.
