The Department of Health Sciences is excited to showcase Elizabeth Carter as the first featured student of the fall semester! Carter comes to Illinois State from Woodridge, which is about an hour and 45 minutes north of Normal. She chose the University because of its outstanding medical laboratory science program. She later fell in love with what community health education had to offer, finding everything she was looking for within her passion for health and science.
Carter brings to the table some characteristics that shine on a daily basis—not only is she caring and persevering, she is genuinely interested in helping people improve their lives. Carter has been actively involved with her major during her time at Illinois State. She has been inducted into Eta Sigma Gamma (National Health Education Honorary) and serves as a research chair; she enjoys time spent in all of her classes, which have enabled her to grow academically and collaborate with like-minded students; and she also recently traveled to Poland for a faculty-lead study abroad.

In the future Carter sees herself working at a hospital where she will be empowering and educating all types of people on all aspects of health and wellness. Carter looks up to her role model, first lady Michelle Obama, who has made efforts in solving childhood obesity. When she has some spare time, she enjoys baking.

Carter was nominated by Illinois State Department of Health Sciences Chair Jeffrey Clark because of her outstanding leadership and involvement during the faculty-lead study abroad program to Poland this past summer.
