Duriel Harris, ENG, is the winner of the Nightboat Poetry Prize for her new book, No Dictionary of a Living Tongue.
Jeffrey Clark, HSC, was given the 2016 William A. Howe award by the American School Health Association (ASHA). The William A. Howe Award, ASHA’s highest honor, recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions and distinguished service in school health.
Presentations and performances
Justin Vickers, MUS, performed Steven Stucky’s The Stars and the Roses, a song-cycle for tenor and chamber ensemble, with the Illinois Modern Ensemble at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on September 16.
Michelle Vought, MUS, was a guest soloist performing with the Peoria Municipal Band. In addition, she sang the National Anthem at the Corn Crib Stadium for the McLean County Alzheimer’s Walk on September 17.
Jeremy Driskell, CHE, co-presented “Chemically Modified Antibodies to Form Stable Gold Nanoparticle Conjugates for Use in Light Scattering Immunoassays,” at the SciX 2016, in Minneapolis.
Bill McBride, ENG, launched his Fall Six Week Film School, “Film Noir: Visual Style & Fortune” at the Normal Theater. He also presented “Bogie & Bowie: The Quintessential Film Noir Anti-Hero & The Iconic Queer Pop Artist Hero” on the “Wild Heroes: Media, Society, and the Need for Narrative” panel at The International Society for the Empirical Study of Literature and Media at the Palmer House in Chicago. McBride also participated in a post-screening discussion with Rick Valentin of Alphaville (Godard 1965) as part of Arts Tech Film Festival at the Normal Theater.
