Women can learn how to more effectively negotiate their salaries and be confident in their professional abilities at the Negotiating Tips for Women event at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the Hancock Stadium Club, 211 N. Main St., in Normal. Those interested must RSVP to attend.
The event will focus on paving the way for millennial women to negotiate their salaries. The program date was chosen due to its close proximity to Equal Pay Day, a nationally recognized day that symbolizes how far into the year a woman must work to earn what a man earned in the previous year. Even though more women are graduating from college and earning graduate degrees than ever before, millennial women are still lagging behind their male counterparts in terms of pay, confidence, and leadership aspirations when women transition into the workplace.
The Career Center wants to support all college students to enhance confidence, negotiate their salaries, argue on behalf of their ideas, and secure champions and mentors. The keynote speaker will be Diane Zosky, director of Illinois State University’s School of Social Work. A panel of employers from various industries will share about their personal career paths, both successes and challenges. Panel members will share tips on being confident in the job search process, while providing interviewing and negotiating advice. Refreshments will be provided.
