The Department of Philosophy, along with the Illinois State University Philosophical Society and the Religious Studies Faculty Forum, will sponsor “The God Debate: Gratuitous Suffering and the Problem of Evil,” which will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in 130 Schroeder Hall.
Illinois State University will host its first Undergraduate Philosophy Conference April 25-26, 2014.
Philosophy major Kevin Richardson presented a paper at the 8th annual Undergraduate Philosophy Conference at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.
Congratulations to Devon Hartwig, a philosophy major and women’s and gender studies minor, who has been accepted to Loyola University Chicago for fall 2014. Hartwig will be pursuing a dual master’s degree in social work and in social justice and community development.

Technology Professor Anu Gokhale and Philosophy Professor Emeritus Kenton Machina are starting a program in teacher education in computer science (TECS) with the help of the National Science Foundation, which will provide $700,000 over three years for the new project.
On October 25 and 26, the Department of Philosophy and the religious studies program will host a two-day conference on religious education. This conference will be free and open to the public, and will be funded by the Shaw Teaching Fellowship that was awarded to Professor Daniel Breyer last year.
Congratulations to Assistant Professor David Sanson, who was recently awarded a New Faculty Initiative Grant (NFIG) to fund a project that he is working on, titled “The Limits of Contingency.”
