Looking at the bright yellow fist-sized blooms of marigolds, Katie Robinson said she was happy. Happy? She was in the second week of classes kneeling in the dirt, in the middle of a heat wave. But the senior horticulture major was right where she wanted to be.

Online classes offer freedom and flexibility for students

With most classes being taught online or in a hybrid format this semester, students now have the freedom and flexibility to take their classes from wherever they choose each day. Whether it is a picnic table outside, hanging out in a hammock, sitting in the grass under a tree, or by the fireplace in the Bone Student Center, students are no longer confined to the same four walls of a classroom two to three times per week for classes.

Another academic year has started, and with it the Stevenson Center introduces a new group of Fellows. Although a new group of Fellows with a wealth and variety of experiences arrives every year from across the country, this group is having a semester like no other.

Former Illinois State football player James Robinson (2016-19) made waves this weekend, breaking the NFL record for most yards by an undrafted rookie running back in a Week 1 game on Sunday, helping the Jacksonville Jaguars come from behind to defeat the Indianapolis Colts, 27-20.
