For 25 years, there wasn’t an active chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA) on campus. But three years ago, that changed. On November 14, 2021, the undergraduate Eta Alpha chapter, which is under the AKA umbrella, was reinstated at Illinois State University.

COE alum and current School District U-46 teacher Aimee Hutchison Legatzke, ’03, was honored with the 2024 Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching for her profound work in her kindergarten classroom.
Elementary education was the top major among Illinois State University graduates in May, with 226 students earning their bachelor’s degree. A total of 347 bachelor’s degrees and 37 master’s degrees were awarded in the School of Teaching and Learning.
