Dr. Craig C. McLauchlan, associate vice president for Research and Graduate Studies, has named Dr. S. Gavin Weiser the interim director of the Graduate School effective July 1. A search for a permanent director is anticipated to begin in the 2024-25 academic year.

Weiser replaces Dr. Noelle Selkow, who accepted a position as director of the School of Kinesiology and Recreation.

Weiser is an associate professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Foundations and coordinator of the college student personnel administration master’s program. Weiser is also a core faculty member in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and affiliated faculty with Latin American and Latino/a Studies. Weiser earned a Ph.D. in foundations of education and inquiry from the University of South Carolina’s College of Education. Beyond this, they also completed a graduate certificate in women’s and gender studies at the University of South Carolina. Weiser worked for several years as a university administrator in the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs at South Carolina, focusing on social justice and diversity work. Prior to this, Weiser was an outdoor educator for Princeton University, leading youth on backpacking and other outdoor adventure activities.

Weiser will oversee a graduate school that includes 2,500 students in 108 master’s degrees, 20 doctoral degrees, one specialist program, 15 accelerated master’s programs, and 41 certificate programs. They will also work closely with approximately 60 internal graduate coordinators and support staff and maintain relationships with external funding sources.
