Illinois State University has been ranked 5th in the Midwest Best Bang for the Buck category of Washington Monthly’s new book The Other College Guide: A Roadmap for the Right School for You. Illinois State is the only university from Illinois ranked in the top five.

The Other College Guide, which was released in early March, ranks schools based on affordability, financial aid, low student debt and high graduation rates. According to its authors, the book “provides a set of guidelines to help students find the right school and excel once they get there.

Other Illinois colleges and universities listed in the Midwest Best Bang for the Buck category are University of Illinois at Chicago (9), Eastern Illinois University (12), University of Illinois—Springfield (25), and Western Illinois University (30).
