Diversity Advocacy will host Café Soul from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday, August 18, in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center. The event will be held during Welcome Week, and is free and open to the public.
Café Soul is an open-mic styled event, which combines diversity and social justice with literature and the creative arts. It enables students, faculty, and staff to celebrate diversity through spoken words, music, and dance. This year’s theme will focus on community building.
The event will feature K-Love the Poet, a national poet and youth organizer from Chicago, and Windy Indie, a Chicago-based violinist. Student performers from the registered student organization IsReal Arts will open the show and lead up to the featured performers.
The participants will experience soothing background music and an ambiance focused on openness to new ideas and appreciation of the arts. Cafe-styled pastries and refreshments will be provided.
