Maria Hinojosa

Anchor and reporter for PBS, NPR, and CNN, Maria Hinojosa is the keynote speaker at this fall’s Latino Cultural Dinner at 5 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, in the Hancock Stadium Club House.

Tickets for the event are currently on sale through October 30, or until sold out, and can be purchased at Housing.IllinoisState.edu. Students with a meal plan can attend the event for one swipe. Otherwise, tickets are $20 for students without a meal plan, faculty, staff, and members of the community. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.

Hinojosa’s 30-year career is well decorated, garnering awards for her reporting with PBS, CNN, WNBC, NPR, and anchoring the Emmy Award winning talk show Maria Hinojosa: One-on-One. Her accolades continue as she also anchors and executive produces the Peabody Award-winning show, Latino USA, distributed by NPR. Additionally, she is the co-host of In The Thick, Futuro Media’s new political podcast.

Throughout her career, Hinojosa has informed millions about the changing cultural and political landscape in America and abroad. As a native of Mexico, she continues to bring attention to experiences and points of view that are often overlooked or underreported in the mainstream media, all while mentoring the next generation of diverse journalists to delve into authentic nuanced stories that impact their communities. Currently, Hinojosa is the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Chair of Latin American and Latino Studies at DePaul University in Chicago, and lives with her husband, son, and daughter in Harlem, New York. Find more information on Maria Hinojosa.

The fall 2018 Latino Cultural Dinner celebrates Latino culture with authentic food, music, and tradition. The evening is highlighted by a speech from Hinojosa.
