Dr. Zine Magubane, professor of sociology at Boston College, will deliver the lecture “The Uses and Abuses of Jim Crow: Contemporary Race Theory and the Problem of History” at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, February 28, as part of events for Black History Month. This event will be held via Zoom.

Originally from South Africa, Magubane conducted teaching and research at the University of Cape Town. She is the author of Bringing the Empire Home: Imagining Race, Gender, and Class in Britain and Colonial South Africa. Magubane is also the co-editor of Race, Gender and the Status of Black South African Women in the Academy and Post Modernity, Postcoloniality, and African Studies. Her areas of specialization include social theory, sociology of post-coloniality, race and ethnicity, globalization, race and popular culture, gender and sexuality, and the sociology of African societies.
