Fall provides an opportunity to understand more about progressive cognitive-communication disorders, as November is designated as a time to recognize caregivers supporting family and friends with dementia diseases. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) will present the free film In Our Right Mind from 7–9 p.m. on November 1 at the Normal Theater to help educate campus and community members about the impact of these disorders on individuals and their families. This film is the third in a series offered through a partnership with the Fell Trust, Milner Library, and the Normal Theater.
In Our Right Mind examines the impact of dementia, specifically on persons of color. This documentary film highlights the importance of health care equity, education, and research around these diseases and all communities who experience the impact of dementias.
The McLean County Alzheimer’s Association will join CSD for this film presentation. A representative of the organization will offer education and resources to audience members; similarly, Dr. Jennine Harvey-Northrop will present information about the research, academic, and clinical work undertaken by CSD around this topic.
