CBC Sports Senior Contributor Shireen Ahmed will deliver the talk “Challenging and Changing the Game: Sports Journalism and Storytelling from an Anti-Oppression Lens” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, February 28 in the Multipurpose Room in the Multicultural Center at Illinois State University.
The event is free and open to the University community. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be provided at 5:30 p.m.

Ahmed is a multi-platform sports journalist, a TEDx speaker, mentor, and an award-winning sports activist who focuses on the intersections of racism and misogyny in sports. Ahmed is an industry expert on Muslim women in sports, and her academic research and contributions have been widely published. Ahmed is co-creator and co-host of the Burn It All Down feminist sports podcast team. In addition to being a seasoned investigative reporter, Ahmed’s commentary is featured by media outlets in Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Australia.
Ahmed will share her experiences in the media industry and in higher education. In addition, Ahmed will present what she finds most valuable in building and preserving an inclusive community in sports and sports media spaces.
