Illinois State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).  Accreditation is a voluntary process that provides assurance that an institution meets clearly stated requirements.

“Accreditation is a signal to the public—in particular to prospective students and their families—that we are meeting our commitment to excellence and building on our solid foundations for continuous improvement,” said Acting Provost Ani Yazedjian, who is chairing the re-accreditation for Illinois State.

The University is participating in HLC’s Open Pathways process for accreditation, which follows a 10-year cycle. A final report will be submitted to the commission prior to an accreditation site visit by HLC reviewers in October 2024. A final accreditation report by HLC, one of only six accreditors in the United States, will be delivered in 2025.

Illinois State’s Accreditation Steering Committee and work team members have begun the process of compiling a vast array of supporting documents. “This is an intensive process, so we are drawing people from divisions across the University,” said Dr. Yazedjian, who noted the efforts will reflect the University’s outstanding work in the areas of institutional mission, ethical and responsible conduct, teaching and learning practices, institutional resources and planning, and compliance issues.
