Milner Library is pleased to showcase its Circus and Allied Arts collection at the start of the fall semester with Sites, Sights, and Sounds of Circus. This exhibit features installations on every floor of Milner Library and contains posters, models, children’s books, and more. The exhibit’s official opening coincides with the Circus Historical Society’s annual convention, which will held in Bloomington-Normal. A reception to welcome conference attendees and the Illinois State community will be held August 25 from 1-4 p.m.

During the reception, Milner will host a gallery talk by visiting artist Yetti Frenkel at 2 p.m. in the Benway Student Art Exhibition Area, Floor 2. Frenkel’s circus-inspired artwork will be on display through October.

At 2:45 p.m., Aíne Norris, Milner Library’s 2022 Circus and Allied Arts Fellow, will provide a talk on the scholarship that brought her to Milner and what she found in the library’s special collections for her dissertation research. The Circus and Allied Arts Fellowship is generously funded by a donor to bring up to two graduate students a year from other institutions to use the primary sources in the Circus and Allied Arts Collection. Norris is a doctoral student at Old Dominion University, and her talk will take place in the southwest corner on Floor 6.

The exhibit and all related events are free and open to the public—all are welcome.

If you need an accommodation to fully participate in this event or have any questions about events at Milner Library, please contact Director of Marketing and Communications Michelle Neuffer at mgneuff@IllinoisState.edu.
