Cell phones across the Illinois State University campus—and across the U.S.—will activate with an emergency signal during a nationwide wireless emergency alert test at 1:20 p.m. (Central Time) on Wednesday, October 4.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will send a test message to compatible cell phones. The message will indicate that it is a test of the nationwide Emergency Alert System and that no action is required by the public. A nationwide emergency alert test for radio and television will also be conducted on the afternoon of October 4.

More information about the test is available at the FEMA website
