Contract negotiations between Illinois State University and SEIU, the Union that represents ISU’s graduate teaching assistants (GTAs), are ongoing under the guidance of an impartial federal mediator.

ISU’s goal is to ensure that GTA total compensation is competitive to peer institutions. A GTA’s total compensation package includes a full tuition waiver, reimbursement for coverage in the student health care plan, a partial waiver of mandatory student fees, and a minimum stipend that, under the current proposal, is above the average minimum stipend at comparable universities.

The University is working to reach a fair and fiscally responsible contract agreement that meets the needs of all stakeholders without disrupting the teaching and learning environment.

Additional sessions with the mediator are scheduled for October 25 and October 27, 2023.
