The Department of Politics and Government honored two outstanding alumni last week on Alumni Day. Abigail Causer ‘12 and Casey Peterson, M.A. ’20, joined members of the department in celebration of their accomplishments.

The honorees enjoyed a coffee hour with College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Dean Heather Dillaway and other CAS alumni. They later joined alums from across Illinois State at the Alumni Day Luncheon.

Causer is a managing attorney at the Public Interest Law Initiative in Champaign. In this role, she coordinates pro bono efforts to assist people in need of civil legal services in Central and Southern Illinois. She has previously worked at the Champaign County Public Defender’s Office. Causer graduated with a degree in political science at Illinois State and attended the University of Illinois College of Law.

Peterson is director of business attraction for the Bloomington Normal Economic Development Council. Peterson is a graduate of Illinois State University’s Stevenson Center where he earned his master’s degree in political science, applied community and economic development sequence in 2020. He previously worked for the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council.
