Illinois State University has presented a last, best, and final proposal to SEIU Local 73, the Union that represents ISU’s graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) and requested that the Union bring this proposal to its membership for a vote on or before November 10. The Union has advised ISU that it will review the University’s last, best, and final proposal with its membership.

ISU’s last, best, and final proposal is a fair and fiscally responsible offer that balances the needs of all stakeholders and provides significant enhancements to total compensation over the life of the agreement. ISU’s goal is to ensure that GTA total compensation is competitive to that at peer institutions—including a minimum stipend that is at or above the average minimum stipend paid at comparable universities.

A GTA’s total compensation package also includes a full tuition waiver, reimbursement for coverage in the student health care plan, and a partial waiver of mandatory student fees that, under the University’s proposal, will increase in Fall 2024.
