Four graduate student researchers will represent the College of Arts and Sciences in the university-wide Three Minute Thesis competition on February 29 at 6 p.m. at the Normal Theater. This event is free and open to the public. Please come and support our students!
Aminat Abdulsalam, Department of Geography, Geology, and the Environment; Ebuka Okoli, School of Communication; Maisha Tahsin Orthy, Department of Psychology; and Sumaiya, School of Biological Sciences, were chosen at a College-wide competition on January 19. Students had three minutes and the use of one static slide to present their research to a lay audience. Sumaiya was also the winner of the college’s “people’s choice” award. “The Three Minute Thesis competition celebrates research by our students and builds our research culture on campus by connecting us across disciplines,” said Dr. Laura Vogel, CAS Associate Dean for Research, Facilities, and Technology. “It’s a great opportunity for students to develop their communication skills while sharing their projects with the ISU community.”
University finalists will be competing for cash prizes: $750 first prize, $500 second prize, and $750 people’s choice award. The university winner will also have the opportunity to represent ISU at the Midwest Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) competition later in the spring.
