Politics and Government Assistant Professor Amelia Buragas recently spoke at a seminar co-hosted by the Appellate Lawyers Association and DuPage County Bar Association. The event featured a panel of appellate lawyers who discussed all the civil cases decided by the Illinois Supreme Court last year. Buragas summarized and discussed the legal implications of court opinions covering a number of topics, including judicial and collateral estoppel, civil procedure, and tort immunity.

The panel also featured Justice Nathaniel Howse of the First District Appellate Court, Judge Celia Gamrath of the Cook County Circuit Court, Judge Clare Quish of the Cook County Circuit Court, and Nadine Wichern, chief of the civil appeals division for the Office of the Illinois Attorney General.

The Appellate Lawyers Association (ALA) is an association of lawyers who practice in the courts of review and the judges who serve on those courts. Buragas is a former member of the ALA board of directors.
