Traci Carte, IT, received the 2023 Association for Information Systems (AIS) Fellow Award, which is a lifetime achievement award and among the highest honors an IS faculty member can receive. She received her award at this year’s International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in Hyderabad, India. Visit School of Information Technology director named AIS Fellow.

Ali Riaz, POL – The Economist endorsed as a “must read” his book, More Than Meets the Eye, as a guide to understanding Bangladesh’s politics and current situation. The book was published by the University Press Limited (Dhaka, 2022).

T.Y. Wang, POL, published a peer-reviewed commentary on Taiwan’s 2024 elections, which were held on January 13, 2024, in East Asia Forum, an online platform for analysis and research on issues related to the Asia Pacific region and based out of the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University.

Noha Shawki, POL, published two co-authored articles in 2023: “Building Solidarity in the Slow Food Movement,” co-authored with Gina Hunter and published in The International Journal of Sociology of Agriculture and Food (IJSAF), and Understanding polycentrically organized movements: An analysis of the Slow Food and Fair Trade movements in Europe,” co-authored with Melissa Schnyder and published in the Journal of Civil Society.

John Blakeman, MCN, published “Cardiovascular Disease in Women: An Update for Nurses” in Nursing Clinics of North America.

Gina Hunter, ANT, published a book titled, Edible Insects: A Global History, that was recently translated and reprinted in German.

Nathan Kapoor, HIS, published a chapter titled, “Electrical Conquest: New Approaches to the History of Electrification,” and also in H-Net Review. 

Presentations

Touré Reed, HIS, served as discussion moderator at Illinois State’s 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Dinner: An Evening with Sherrilyn Ifill.

Katie Jasper and Lea Cline, HIS, delivered a paper at the annual meeting of the Archaeological Institute of America titled, “The Northwest Bolsena Archaeological Project: Results from the 2022 and 2023 Seasons.”
