The College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) recently hosted a week of events celebrating advancements in the field of science and technology, and the students and professionals who make those advancements possible.
Science and Technology Week, held April 8-12, was kicked off with a keynote address from Dr. Nita A. Farahany. She is the Robinson O. Everett Distinguished Professor of Law & Philosophy and founding director of the Duke Initiative for Science & Society. She is also a widely published scholar on the ethics of emerging technologies, and author of the book The Battle for Your Brain: Defending Your Right to Think Freely in the Age of Neurotechnology. Farahany’s address gave insight into the impact of neurotechnology on our lives, the gaps in laws pertaining to cognitive privacy and the future of cognitive freedom for humanity.
The second day of the week featured the CONNECT Event. Hosted by Cast Connections, this panel-led event offered the opportunity for current students to network with recent alumni. This year, the focus was on effective networking, conflict resolution, proper communication, and utilization of leadership skills.
During the last event of the week, CAST celebrated its alumni with an induction into the Academy of Achievement. The Academy brings together alumni who are “thought leaders” in their fields and who serve as an inspiration to others with similar career paths.
CAST would like to thank all the students, alumni, faculty, and professionals who attended these events and made the week so successful.
