Megan Gilligan of Iowa State University’s Department of Human Development & Family Studies will present “Stretching the Ties that Bind: Intergenerational Estrangement Between Mothers & Adult Children” at 4 p.m. Monday, April 23, in Schroeder Hall, room 238.
Gilligan serves as a key investigator on the Within Family Differences Study, funded by the National Institutes of Health, which seeks to understand intergenerational relationships. She is the recipient of the Early Achievement in Research Award at Iowa State.
In her talk, Gilligan will share her work on the process of intergenerational estrangement between mothers and adult children. She will also discuss findings regarding patterns of intergenerational estrangement across time.
The event is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences Interdisciplinary Initiative and the ISU Interdisciplinary Research Group on Personal Relationships, with assistance from the Departments/Schools of Family and Consumer Sciences, Sociology and Anthropology, Psychology, and Communication, and from the College of Applied Science and Technology.
