The 2021-22 Experiencing Images: How the Visual Shapes Our World speaker series continues at 2 p.m. March 23 at the University Galleries.

The event will feature Illinois State University faculty members Dr. Byron Craig, Jin Lee, and Jason Reblando discussing selected photographs from University Galleries’ permanent collection.
Craig is an assistant professor at the School of Communication and with African American Studies, and a Fellow with the American Democracy Project. His current research includes the rhetorical analysis of anti-Black racism, trauma, and social injustice through sites of memory and media spaces. He is currently completing an edited volume titled Rupturing Post-Racial Fantasies: The Rhetorical Politics of Race and American Popular Culture Since the Ferguson Uprisings.
Lee is a professor of photography at the Wonsook Kim School of Art. Lee’s project centers on forming a deeper relationship to places through close examination of their landscapes and built environments. She has received the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship and the Illinois Arts Council grant, and has had solo shows at the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago Cultural Center, and Sioux City Art Center. Her works are included in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Madison Art Center, and Harvard Art Museums.
Reblando is an assistant professor of photography at the Wonsook Kim School of Art. Reblando is a recipient of a U.S. Fulbright Fellowship and an Artist Fellowship Award from the Illinois Arts Council. His photos are collected in the Library of Congress, the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. His monograph New Deal Utopias was published in 2017.
This event is organized by graduate student Holly Filsinger as part of her year-long speaker series, Experiencing Images: How the Visual Shapes Our World.
