With the October 1 retirement of Debbie Fox, assistant dean for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), who has edited and published CASNews for the past 18 years, CASNews will take a brief hiatus from publication. Look for CASNews to resume weekly publication next semester.
“I’m honored to have served as a member of the CAS staff,” said Fox, herself an Illinois State University alumna. “The work that people are doing in each of our three divisions is genuinely amazing, and I hope I was able to play a role in sharing that among our colleagues.”
The concept of CASNews was created in 2004 by Dean Gary Olson and Assistant Dean Sarah Diel-Hunt to showcase the depth and breadth of the excellent work being done throughout the college by students, faculty, and staff. At the time, it was the only electronic newsletter at Illinois State University. Over the decades, it became an integral part of CAS culture, appearing each week in mailboxes across the college.
“I appreciate the incredible work that Debbie has done with CASNews,” said Dean Heather Dillaway. “In a college as large as ours, CASNews has done a great deal to establish a common source of pride and information. Readers should be assured that we will restart CASNews as soon as we can. We thank our CAS community members for their patience during this hiatus.”
