Senior Professionals and the American Democracy Project at Illinois State University are once again co-sponsoring civic engagement service learning grants and are looking to award funds to be used for local, student-led civic engagement projects.

From climate change, to the mysteries of cybervictimizations, and how social media impacts our lives, Illinois State University’s Senior Professionals program will explore a wealth of topics.
Laura Kowalczyk, the Senior Professionals coordinator, will present the talk “Enhancing the College Experience Outside the Traditional Classroom” for University Club on March 1.
Up to $1,000 will be awarded in February and must be used during the 2019 spring semester for local, student-led civic engagement projects.
Topics to be explored will include the Illinois budget and long-term debt reduction, the opioid epidemic, the 1968 and 1969 American crisis, and exploration of Illinois’ archaeology.
Illinois State University’s Academy of Seniors will celebrate the history and future of Bloomington-Normal, explore what immigration means to the American dream, and delve into Alexander Hamilton—the man and the musical.

Academy of Seniors and Mornings with the Professors classes will begin September 18 and run through November 17. Classes will be held in the University’s Alumni Center, 1101 N. Main St. in Normal.
