Biologist and award-winning author Thor Hanson will present “The Triumph of Seeds” from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, October 4, in the Old Main Room of Illinois State University’s Bone Student Center.
The event will include Hanson’s presentation and a selection of sweet and savory seeded hors d’oeuvres. Attendees will also receive a garden corsage and a botanical souvenir. Event tickets are $40 and registration is required.
Thor Hanson is a Guggenheim Fellow and a Switzer Environmental Fellow. In his book, The Triumph of Seeds, Hanson explores both the natural and cultural history of seeds—why they are so dominant in nature, and why we are so utterly dependent upon them.
His other books include Buzz, The Impenetrable Forest, Feathers, and the illustrated children’s favorite, Bartholomew Quill. Hanson’s writing has been translated into more than 10 languages and has earned many accolades, including The John Burroughs Medal, the Phi Beta Kappa Award, the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize, and two Pacific Northwest Book Awards.
