Business teacher education preparation at Illinois State will advance through a new academic program that has received approval from the University’s Board of Trustees. The proposal for a master’s in business education degree within the Department of Marketing is now under consideration by the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
ISU is the only public university in the state with an active undergraduate degree program in business teacher preparation, which is offered through the College of Business. The master’s sequence will further strengthen business education for elementary and secondary school teachers.
The degree will allow teachers from grade school through secondary education “a way to enhance their content knowledge and advance their teaching skills,” said Tamra Davis, associate professor of business education.
The program will provide credentials individuals need for teaching business education courses at community colleges and lower-division business education courses offered by four-year institutions.
