As part of the Student Affairs Professional Development series, Equality Illinois will facilitate the workshop Advancing LGBTQ+ Equality and Inclusion in Illinois in ’22 and Beyond from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, via Zoom.

The session is open to Redbird faculty, staff, and graduate assistants. RSVP here to attend.

This year, more than 300 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in state capitols across the country. Anti-LGBTQ+ violence is on the rise. This session will allow participants to understand these issues, and how Illinois has been a leader in recent years in the protection and promotion of LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion.

Mony Ruiz-Velasco and Mike Ziri of Equality Illinois, the state’s LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, will facilitate the workshop. Ruiz-Velasco is a human rights advocate and the deputy director at Equality Illinois, where she works to advance a more equitable Illinois for all LGBTQ+ communities. Ziri, a veteran in legislative affairs and a former Springfield elected official, is the director of public policy at Equality Illinois.
