Borders, Feminism, Memory, and Identity is the culmination of a year-long partnership, conversation, and exchange to produce institutional connections between Illinois State and UACM.

“The goal of the partnership and conference is to create dialogues between the faculty and students of ISU and the UACM centered around faculty research and student projects,” said Dr. Livia Stone, one of the organizers of the event.

Discussions and presentations will aim to create dialogues between the faculty and students of Illinois State and UACM centered around faculty research and student projects.  “Latin America and Latino/a Studies program is at the forefront of creating learning and classroom opportunities for students and faculty across the university that are innovative,” said Dr. Maura Toro-Morn, director of LALS. “This is truly evidence of the commitment of faculty members like Dr. Stone that are interested in expanding the borders of the classroom beyond Central Illinois to create learning spaces that are translingual and transformative.”

Stone noted the conference represents a first attempt in a long-term collaboration with universities throughout Latin American. “This will create opportunities for students and faculty to converse and collaborate with colleagues and peers across a multiplicity of borders; linguistic, political, and cultural, among others,” added Stone.
