April 23-29 is National Library Week, an annual observation used to celebrate and highlight libraries’ contributions, resources, and workers. Created in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association and recognized in all types of libraries across the country.
The theme for National Library Week 2023, “There’s More to the Story,” highlights the multifaceted role of libraries within the communities they serve. Libraries facilitate connection by providing access to resources such as technology, the internet, and physical spaces that people can use to connect with each other. Patrons can connect with resources available from libraries such as books, digital assets, historical and/or rare items, programs, and workshops. Users can also connect with library employees who provide a variety of vital services to their communities. Lastly, the 2023 theme is a call to action: an invitation for communities to join, visit, and advocate for their libraries.
