ReggieCon will host the panel “Eyes Unclouded by Hate: The Spirit of Hayao Miyazaki!” from 7-8:30 p.m. May 6, via Zoom.

“In celebration of Asian Pacific Heritage Month, the panel with focus on the work of world-renowned animator/storyteller Mr. Hayao Miyazaki, with an emphasis on his master work “Mononoke Hime” (Princess Mononoke). The suggested reading is Princess Mononoke.

Panelists include Dr. Scott Jordan, chair of the Department of Psychology at Illinois State University; Victor Dandridge, founder of Vantage InHouse Productions; Dr. Theresa Rojas, professor of English at Modesto Junior College and director of the Latinx Comic Arts Festival; and Dr. Eric Wesselmann, associate professor of psychology at Illinois State.

Guest panelists for March will include Tatsu Shigeta, Rio Shigeta, and Larry Houston.

Sponsored by the Office of Enrollment Management and Academic Services, ReggieCon is a series of virtual events held throughout the fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters. Each event consists of a panel of experts in comic and popular media and focuses on issues of race and diversity. Panel topics align with national recognition months such as Black History, LGBTQ History, and Asian Pacific Heritage Month.
